Xiaomi’s self-developed smartphone chipset has a name and a release date

Back in November, Xiaomi was said to be working on its very own self-developed smartphone chipset, in order to reduce its reliance on Qualcomm and MediaTek. This was then rumored to arrive this year, and today Xiaomi CEO Lei Jun has confirmed the news.

In a post on Weibo, he unveiled the chip’s name – it’s Xuanjie O1 in Chinese, and Xring O1 internationally, as you can see below. Lei has also officially announced that the chip will be fully unveiled in late May, so we’re only a couple of weeks away from learning more about it.

If you’re wondering what to expect from it in terms of performance, prolific Chinese leaker Digital Chat Station says it will be built on a 5nm process. Previous rumors talked about it having a 1+3+4 CPU, with one Cortex-X925 core, three Cortex-A725 cores, and four Cortex-A520 cores clocked at up to 3.2GHz, 2.6GHz, and 2GHz, respectively, while a GPU from Imagination Technologies will be used and a 5G modem from Unisoc. It will allegedly be comparable to Qualcomm’s Snapdragon 8 Gen 2.

Of course, do take all of these specs with a hefty pinch of salt, as nothing is official just yet.
