Smartphone brand Tecno and camera evaluation company DXOMARK have announced the launch of the Tecno DXOMARK Joint Imaging Laboratory as the world’s first fully automated imaging laboratory.
Both companies collaborated to launch this automated imaging lab in Chongqing, China, marking the first implementation of DXOMARK’s Camera V6 protocol. With this partnership, Tecno and DXOMARK aim to establish a new imaging evaluation standard through fully automated testing, multidimensional skin tone adaptation, and intelligent regional customization, while the Camera V6 implementation helps set benchmarks for testing efficiency, consistency, and objectivity.
The precision automation system at the lab employs robotic arms for micron-level positioning accuracy, fully automated chart switching, and AI-controlled environmental simulation. It executes all testing workflows without human intervention.

This imaging lab also features comprehensive imaging evaluation with scientifically calibrated 2D color charts that represent global skin tones, enabling accurate calibration of color science and texture production across the entire spectrum of human complexions.
Moreover, the lab enables region-specific customization for generating evaluation protocols tailored to different market preferences. For example, the system would enhance exposure calibration for African markets since users prefer brighter images there. However, in South-East Asia, it would optimize the noise reduction algorithms since night shot clarity is important for the user base.
