Samsung Galaxy S25 Edge in for review

The new Galaxy S25 Edge arrived at the office today and we have some thoughts. Let’s get the obvious stuff out of the way first – it’s thin (5.8mm), and light (163g), and it ships in a box with a USB-C cable.

The S25 Edge is undeniably elegant and refined. It’s also pretty in an understated and minimalist sort of way. And despite its svelte profile, it feels solid. There’s also a good amount of top-tier tech – the Snapdragon 8 Elite, a 200MP main camera (though not the same as the one on the S25 Ultra), Samsung’s excellent AMOLED upfront.

So what’s the point of this phone? We can’t answer that just yet, but we’ve given it some thought. Is it just an exercise in “we can beat Apple at its own game,” or is there more to it?

It’s a big footprint phone, yet it’s the same weight as the smaller Galaxy S25 (well, 1g heavier). The smaller phone has a slightly bigger 4,000mAh battery (vs 3,900mAh), on the other hand. The Galaxy S25+ is much heavier at 190g, but it has an even bigger battery advantage – 4,900mAh (1,000mAh more).

The regular S25 models have a dedicated zoom camera, but that’s possibly the worst one in the premium market, so we won’t count it as a plus. Camerawise, we expect the Galaxy S25 Edge to be at least as good as its non-Ultra peers.

But that doesn’t bring us closer to finding the niche for this phone. Here’s a potential one – it’s for the person who wants a light phone, but with a big display.

Either way the Galaxy S25 Edge is an interesting phone. It’s new, it’s fresh, it’s a step away from the mundane and stagnant way of doing phones these days. It’s thin and it’s proud of it!

Touching the Galaxy S25 Edge brings us back to the diminutive Samsung Galaxy Alpha – a 4.7-inch 6.7mm, 115g phone that Samsung made to show people it too could make phones with premium design.
