Samsung Display will launch a new foldable display brand at the K-Display 2025, an industry exhibition of new technology that opens doors on August 7 (Thursday). The brand is dubbed “MONT FLEX”.

Here’s how Samsung explains it. “M” stands for mechanical durability, “O” for opto-mechanically flat, “N” for narrow bezels and “T” for thin and lightweight design.

In more detail, the M highlights innovations like the shock-resistant structure that allowed the Galaxy Z Fold7 and Z Flip7 displays to survive 500,000 fold cycles. The O highlights the work put into making the crease less visible. Narrow bezels give you more screen area. Finally, the whole industry is striving for thinner and lighter foldables and slimming down the display helps do just that.

“Mont” is also French for “mountain”, which is intentional – Samsung says that it represents the pinnacle of foldable innovation.

“Since beginning mass production of foldable OLEDs in 2019, we have continued to drive technological innovation to perfect the product—becoming the first in the industry to apply UTG (Ultra Thin Glass) and LEAD, a polarizer-free OCF technology, to foldables,” said Jae-Nam Yun, Executive Vice President and Head of Mobile Display Marketing Team at Samsung Display.

Hold on, let us grab our tech initialism dictionary. LEAD stands for Low power consumption, Eco-friendliness, Augmented brightness and Designed to be soft and light. OCF or On-Cell Film improves visual performance while also making the display thinner and lighter.

“Following the launch of a foldable panel with a newly developed ‘shock-resistant structure’ that passed the 500,000-fold durability test, we will continue pushing the boundaries to deliver even more refined foldable products that exceed market expectations,” said Jae-Nam Yun.

Foldable panels from Samsung Display are, of course, featured on the Galaxy Z series. The company sells to other smartphone makers too – recently, unofficial info surfaced that Apple has ordered panels for its upcoming foldable.
