Introduction
Huawei has refreshed its MatePad Pro 12.2 tablet this year, and it is once again manufactured in two different editions – one with a standard screen glass and another one with a PaperMatte display. Today, we are going to look into more detail into the Huawei MatePad Pro 12.2 (2025) PaperMatte edition.
The MatePad Pro is built around a 12.2-inch Double-layer OLED screen with 2800 x 1840 pixels, 10-bit color depth, and 144Hz refresh rate. The PaperMatte edition comes with a special antiglare glass that feels like paper. The matte version reduces reflections, improves the sunlight legibility, and helps with more immersive reading and writing/drawing (if you get the optional M-Pencil, that is).
Kirin 9020 chip is at the heart of the new MatePad Pro – it features an improved 8-core processor and Maleoon GPU. That tablet is available with 12GB RAM and 256GB or 512GB storage. We have already met with this 7nm chip and we know it falls into the modern mid-range category, but it’s definitely no slouch.
The tablet has two cameras on the back – a 50MP primary one with 4K30 video capturing and an 8MP ultrawide shooter. The front camera uses an 8MP imager with a fixed focus.
The MatePad Pro 12.2 (2025) is powered by a 10,100mAh battery that supports up to 100W fast wired charging. It boots HarmonyOS version 4.3.
If you are familiar with last year’s model, the update won’t be of much interest to you as it brings a slightly upgraded Kirin chipset, Wi-Fi 7 connectivity, and a higher resolution camera sensor on the back.

There is no ingress protection on the MatePad Pro, but that’s hardly its biggest setback. HarmonyOS features no Google Mobile Services, there is no support for Google apps and payments, and the Kirin performance may not be up to par – those are the potential deal-breakers. But we’ll see how much they affect the user experience.
Unboxing the Huawei MatePad Pro (2025)
The Huawei MatePad Pro (2025) PaperMatte Edition ships in a rather thick paper box. It contains the tablet, a 100W dual-port charger, and a 6A-rated cable.
At the time of writing this, Huawei is bundling the tablet with the optional wireless NearLink mouse and the 3rd Gen M-Pencil (also Nearlink) free of charge.
Inside the box, you should also find the cool Huawei Glide Keyboard, but unfortunately, our review unit arrived without this accessory.
