We’re just over a week away from the big Pixel launch event on August 20, but the leaks keep going. A couple of days ago, a detailed leak showed the Google Pixel Buds 2a specs, now even more details have surfaced.
The more affordable 2a buds – rumored to cost €150 – borrow design cues from the flagship Pixel Buds Pro 2. This includes smaller wingtips compared to the original Pixel Buds A-Series.
The case looks like that of the Pro buds and in true Google fashion is available only in white. The buds themselves will come in at least two colors, gray and iris. If you look closely, you will see that the seal where the case opens is colored to match the buds inside, but that is tough to spot at a distance. Two more colors have been referenced, Fog Light and Hazel, but there are no leaked images of those yet.
Also, some cost-cutting measures are evident. For example, the Google “G” is just printed instead of having it embossed in the plastic casing. There are other differences too, e.g. the external mics have a new grille and the proximity sensors have been moved.
Based on the leaked specs, the Pixel Buds 2a are also cutting the adaptive Silent Seal feature and head tracking for spatial audio. They will have lower battery life and no wireless charging.
Leaked Pixel Buds 2a specs
That said, the 2a still add Active Noise Cancellation (ANC) and Spatial Audio, which were missing from the original A-series buds. It’s just that these features will be more basic compared to the Pro model.
The Pixel Buds 2a will be announced on August 20 along with four Pixel 10 phones – three slabs and one foldable – and the new Pixel Watch 4. The Pixel 10, 10 Pro and 10 Pro XL will be in stores on August 28, but availability of the buds, watch and Pixel 10 Pro Fold will be delayed until October 9, according to unofficial info.
