It’s not often that we get to see unreleased iPhones in the wild, as Cupertino has a notoriously strict policy against leaks, but this might be our first live look at an iPhone 17 Pro test device. X user @Skyfops shared two images snapped in Union Square, San Francisco, showing a man holding two iPhones.

The caseless model, which is likely an iPhone 16 Pro, appears to have a data matrix code sticker – a usual sign that the device is commissioned by Apple to an employee.
The more interesting bit is the second device, which appears to be the upcoming iPhone 17 Pro. It is wearing a thick black protective case, which is there to conceal its design. We can make out the repositioned LED and LiDAR scanner in the top corner, which falls in line with the rumors of a redesigned camera island taking up the entire width of the device’s back.
The new leak matches previously shared renders
As far as credibility goes, Bloomberg’s Mark Gurman seems to believe this is a legit image of the iPhone 17 Pro.
We also get a second shot of the two phones side by side from the front, showcasing just how thick the protective case is on the iPhone 17 Pro.

We don’t get any additional info for the upcoming device, but this is our best look at the iPhone 17 Pro, ahead of its expected launch in early September.
