The Pixel 10 announcement didn’t go as we had expected – we thought that Google would regale us with details on how the new Tensor G5 is much more powerful and more efficient than previous chips. Instead we got “AI this, AI that”.
The new Pixelsnap accessories ushering in proper support for Qi 2’s magnetic profile was long overdue, if you ask us, and a worthwhile upgrade. Stable prices were a welcome bit of news too.
The new Pixelsnap magnetic accessories
The vanilla Google Pixel 10 finally has a telephoto camera – with 5x zoom no less (eat your heart out, Galaxy S25). It’s only a 10.8MP sensor, but it enables proper zoom. We don’t entirely love the loss of the large 1/1.31” sensor that was in the Pixel 9 main cam (the 10 only gets a relatively small 1/2.0” sensor) and the 48MP ultra-wide (there’s a 13MP module instead). We do like the slightly brighter display and larger battery.
The Google Pixel 10 Pro also gets a slightly brighter display and bigger battery. The charge rate for both phones went up by a few watts, just enough to keep charge times the same. The camera setup is the same as before, unless you count the new software features (Google finally released Pro Res Zoom and added conversational editing to Photos).
Pixel 10 Pro and Pixel 10 Pro XL
The story of the Google Pixel 10 Pro XL is mostly more of the same – the upgrade to 45W wired and 25W Qi 2 charging is nice, but it’s also long overdue. There are a few things like Bluetooth 6.0 support, the advantages of which might not become apparent for a while, but really it’s the Tensor G5 that is the major upgrade this generation.
The Google Pixel 10 series
The Google Pixel 10 Pro Fold is the first foldable in the US market with an IP68 dust and water resistance – not the first in the world, but it still casts a shadow on the IP48-rated Galaxy Z Fold7. But how on Earth did Google manage to make its foldable thicker and heavier? Sure, it’s got a bigger battery – 365mAh is nothing to sneeze at – but it’s not like the camera got better hardware or like the screens are (significantly) larger. But 258g and 10.8mm will be a tough sell. Or will it?

And as a reminder, the Pixel 10, 10 Pro and 10 Pro XL will be out before the end of the month, the Pixel 10 Pro Fold is only coming on October 9.
